About Fiji

About Fiji

Fiji is an island nation situated in Melanesia in the South Pacific Ocean. It sits about 2,000 kilometers to the northeast of New Zealand's North Island. The country consists of over 332 islands, including 110 that are inhabited year-round. It also has 500 islets. The rich forest land and the minerals and fish resources in Fiji make it one of the most developed economies in the Pacific island area.

For those who live near the South Pacific, Fiji is largely a tourist destination. The beautiful tropical islands with their white sand beaches, soft coral diving spots and natural wonders are ideal for the eco-tourist. Because it is halfway between North America and Asia, Fiji is also a popular business destination for those conducting international business.

What Is the Law System in Fiji?

The government of Fiji has an independent judiciary. Three courts, the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, share the task of enforcing the judicial power. The laws and rights offered in Fiji are similar to those found in English common law.
